The Sibling Showdown & a Trip to the Theme Parks in Idaho
Mia (9) and Jake (7) had been at it all morning. If there was a world record for the most arguments in a single day, they were determined to break it.
“That’s my marker!” Mia screeched, trying to yank the pen from Jake’s hand. Jake teased and argued, holding it high above her reach.
Their mom, Olivia, sighed deeply, massaging her temples. “I can’t do this today.”
Their dad, Mark, peeked over his newspaper. “Ignore them. They’ll tire themselves out.”
Just then, the door opened with unmistakable flair.
“Did someone order a handsome, wise, and fun-filled package of wonder?” a loud voice boomed.
Mia and Jake froze. Then, they both squealed in delight. “Uncle Max!”

“He stole it!” Mia huffed.
“She’s dramatic!” Jake shot back.
Olivia groaned. “You know! This happens every. Single. Day.”
“Oh boy,” Max whistled. “Tell me, have we tried throwing them in a pillow fort? Or perhaps making them communicate only in interpretive dance?”
“Max,” Mark said, rubbing his face. “We tried EVERYTHING.”
Max stroked his chin. “Then it’s time for drastic measures.”
The kids paused. Drastic measures?!
Max paced like an actor from the silent movies; then his eyes twinkled with a master plan.
“I BET,” he declared, pointing dramatically at the bickering duo, “that neither of you can go a whole day without fighting.”
Mia and Jake’s jaws dropped.
“A WHOLE day? IMPOSSIBLE,” Mia scoffed.
Jake folded his arms. “What do we get if we win?”
Max smirked. “Oh, just a trip to one of the greatest family fun centers in the neighborhood…”
Mia and Jake leaned in. “Right here? You mean, near us?
Max wiggled his eyebrows. “The Theme Park. Rides! Candies! A temporary truce with gravity!”
The kids gasped. Their parents exchanged glances.
“Hold on,” Mark said skeptically. “And if they fail?”
Max leaned in, lowering his voice. “Then they must wear matching outfits for an entire week.”
Olivia snorted. “Genius.”
The kids looked horrified. What? Matching outfits? No way!
“Deal,” they said in unison.
Max clapped his hands. “Then let the Game of Peace begin!”
It started strong. Mia and Jake refused to look at each other, fearing a single word might spark an argument. Uncle Max was staring at them constantly. At breakfast, Jake almost complained about Mia taking the last pancake, but one glance at Uncle Max’s smug face and he forced a smile.
“Take it, dear sister,” he said through gritted teeth.
Mia narrowed her eyes. “Why, thank you, dearest brother.”
Olivia whispered to Mark, “Is this… weirdly creepy, or is it just me?”
Mark took a sip of coffee. “It’s terrifying.”
Mia and Jake played outside, dodging their natural instinct to argue. Then, disaster struck.
Jake was about to score a goal in their backyard soccer match when Mia accidentally tripped him.
Time froze!!! Jake turned, his face red. “Did. You. Just…”
Mia gulped. “I… it was… an accident.”
Uncle Max popped out from behind the bush like a game show host. “Will he forgive her, folks? Or will he lose the grand prize?”
Jake exhaled. “It’s fine.”
Mia blinked. “Wait… you’re not mad?”
Jake stood up, brushing off dirt. “Nope.”
Mia stared. “Are you an alien?”
Max whispered loudly, “I think he’s been possessed by the spirit of a decent sibling!”
The kids burst out laughing.
By dinnertime, something strange happened.
Mia and Jake weren’t just tolerating each other. They were… having fun!
They built a LEGO tower together. They shared a bowl of popcorn. At one point, Mia willingly gave Jake the last cookie without hesitation.
Olivia looked at Mark, stunned. “Who are they?”
Mark grinned. “I have no idea. But I think Max just performed an exorcism.”
At dinnertime, Max gathered the family. “Ladies and gentlemen, we have witnessed something miraculous today. A day of peace. A historic truce. A triumph for siblings everywhere.”
Mia and Jake stood proudly, beaming.
Max threw his hands up. “So, you know what that means?”
“THEME PARK TIME!” the kids shouted.
And so, the next morning, they rode roller coasters and crazy rides, ate obscene amounts of cotton candy, and declared it the greatest day ever.
As they sat on a ferris wheel, Jake nudged Mia. “Hey… today was fun.”
Mia smirked. “Even without arguing?”
